Jenny has experience working with people individually, as well as in
groups. She is a registered social worker, who has earned her BSW and is currently completing her MSW from Carleton University. She is a structural, anti-oppressive social worker who believes in the power of persons and peoples: she works with clients to create opportunities for healing and growth.
Jenny’s background lies in fitness, having worked as a personal trainer and yoga instructor for a decade. She has seen the healing power of movement, and mindfulness unfold in this work, and wanted to be able to better support her clients. This brought her into the field of social work, during which time she was employed by the Ottawa Distress Centre, working in the field of crisis and suicide intervention, as both front-line support, and as community educator delivering trainings such as active listening, limits and boundaries, mental health awareness and Living Works ASIST. She is a Bronze Level ASIST trainer, working for Talk Tools Training. Jenny also works at Vesta Recovery Program for Women Inc., as support staff. At Vesta, Jenny has delivered therapeutic groups concerning the importance of life basics, boundaries, denial and self-sabotage, and co-occurring disorders. Jenny works hard to keep up with the latest trauma based research, understanding the importance of melding mindfulness based techniques with traditional therapeutic approaches.
She works to combine a solid knowledge of the neurobiological underpinnings of trauma while providing a safe and welcoming environment, creatively combining these aspects of care to customize healing journeys in partnership with her clients.
