Krista completed her Master of Social Work at Carleton University and is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). She continues to expand her knowledge with professional development in areas such as parts work, dissociation, and trauma.

Krista's clinical experience includes the role of a Social Worker at The Ottawa Hospital, working in long-term care facilities and private practice, as well as participating in programs which improve the health of vulnerable children. She is the owner of Helman Counselling, the Co-Director of the West Ottawa Wellness clinic, and a Facilitator with the Crisis and Trauma Resource Institute.

Krista specializes in areas such as trauma, anxiety, relationships, and behaviour issues. She is fully trained in EMDR, has undertaken additional EMDR-related trainings, and completed further training in areas such as parts work, dissociation, and Polyvagal Theory. Krista is primarily an EMDR therapist, and uses aspects of other therapies such as Narrative Therapy, DBT, positive psychology, and Ego State Therapy.

The Safe and Sound Protocol
Interns are completing their Master of Social Work, and are qualified to provide counselling services and the Safe and Sound Protocol. As they under the supervision of Krista Helman MSW, RSW, services can be claimed through insurance benefits which cover a Registered Social Worker with a Masters degree.

Emily obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in Psychology and Sexuality Studies from Carleton University in 2019. She is currently a Master of Social Work student, and a registered member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OCSWSSW).
​
Emily has certifications in Safe Talk, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, and Motivational Interviewing. She also have extensive training in Grief Counselling through Laurier University’s Social Work Professional Development Program.

Over the past ten years, Emily has worked with individuals and groups across the lifespan, ranging from children to older adults, in various non-profit, social service, and healthcare settings.
​
Emily supports individuals aged 15+ with mental health issues, anxiety, burnout, depression, grief/bereavement, stress, suicidal ideation, and trauma. She also works with people who are experiencing challenges related to gender identity, sexual orientation, and relationships. Understanding mental health from a (w)holistic perspective, she recognizes physical, psychological, social, structural, and spiritual factors impact wellbeing. Using a trauma-informed and collaborative approach, Emily will work with you to explore your values, priorities, and strengths to figure out how together you can integrate them into your healing journey. Emily incorporates evidence-based treatments, mainly deriving from narrative, emotionally-focussed, internal family systems, and acceptance and commitment therapies.
